5 Hobbies For Women Who Want to Slow Down This Summer

5 hobbies for women this summer

Summer tends to move fast; it’s filled with plans, invites, and the pressure to make the most of every sunny moment. I often find myself saying yes to everything, afraid to waste a season that feels so fleeting. But somewhere between the busy weekends and overbooked days, I start longing for stillness. For slower mornings, quiet afternoons, and space to simply enjoy. This summer, I’m asking a new question: how can I slow down and fill my time with things that still interest me?  That question led me to explore 5 hobbies for women that invite rest, creativity, and intention into the season.

Why Summer Is the Ideal Time for New Hobbies

Summer offers the perfect setting to explore new hobbies. With longer days and slower mornings, there’s a natural ease that invites creativity. The extra sunlight gives us a gentle serotonin boost, lifting our mood and inspiring us to try something new. Starting a hobby in this season of warmth and light can build momentum that carries into the colder, cozier months ahead.

Outdoor spaces also come alive in summer. Whether it’s your backyard, a quiet corner of the park, or even a sunny balcony, being outside offers a change of scenery that sparks curiosity and inspires. Many times, if you’re in a 4-season climate, it’s the best time of year to explore more adventurous hobbies outdoors.

5 Intentional Hobbies For Women This Summer

Try out a few of these hobbies for women this summer in your downtime.

1. Flower Arranging

Flower arrangements bring life to a space, adding a touch of the outdoors and a fresh, natural feel to any room. Grocery store arrangements can be nice to grab, but have you ever considered learning how to do it yourself?

Many grocery stores allow you to buy bundles of the same flower. Select 4-5 varieties of flowers and greenery to begin creating your own bouquets.

Here is a good ratio to follow:

  • You’ll need 3-5 flower/stem varieties for a small bouquet
    • 50% focal flowers (the main blooms)
    • 30% greenery (leaves, branches, herbs)
    • 20% filler flowers (small, delicate blooms for texture and volume)

2. Reading

Reading is a fitting hobby for any season, admittedly, but I think it fits very well into the hobbies for summer category. People are going on vacation to the beach or the lake, and what better way to fill your time than starting a book on your list? If you’re not a reader, get started on your reading journey now with a classic beach read.

I’d recommend starting with something fun, easy, and short, but find something you’re interested in. You might also consider doing a digital detox on vacation and reaching for your book instead of your phone.

3. Seasonal Mixology

Get creative with fresh, flavorful drinks to elevate your next gathering, a girl’s night, or an evening on the patio. Summer is the ideal season to experiment with unique drink recipes, thanks to its abundance of ripe berries, garden herbs, and seasonal citrus. Whether you’re crafting cocktails or mocktails, mixology can be a fun, flavorful way to unwind, and it’s one of those joyful hobbies for women that adds a special touch to everyday moments.

Favorite Seasonal Drinks To Try:

  • Watermelon Basil Margarita
  • Peach Bourbon Smash
  • Blueberry Mojitos
  • Strawberry Punch with Sorbet (NA)
  • Tart Cherry Sleepy Girl Mocktail (NA)

If you prefer a non-alcoholic beverage, experiment with mocktail recipes or try adding a non-alcoholic spirit.

4. Hosting an Outdoor Themed Dinner Party

I see hosting as a hobby, something you can grow in and get better at with time and practice. Take advantage of the nice weather to host a few dinner parties outside. Choose a fun theme and plan a menu, drinks, and the decor around that.

A few summer dinner party themes I want to try:

  • Summer Solstice
  • Golden Hour
  • Tomatoes!
  • French Country Garden Party
  • Farmers Market Feast
  • Coastal Cuisine
  • Amalfi Nights

5. Beaded Embroidery

Out of all the hobbies for women and/or hobbies for summer, beaded embroidery stands out to me the most. All of the beaded embroidery projects I see are always so bright and colorful. It also reminds me of those gorgeous Clio Peppiatt beaded dresses. It’s so feminine and perfect for the summer.

Here are a couple of beaded embroidery ideas from other creators.
